Dive Sites of Mergui Archipelago Beach in Myanmar

Mergui Archipelago BeachMergui Archipelago, located in southernmost part of Myanmar (Burma), comprises over 800 beautiful islands. Due to its virtual isolation, the islands and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of flora and fauna and very beautiful underwater scenes and marine life.
The only human inhabitants in the area are sea gypsies, namely Salon in Myanmar(Burma). They live on boats during dry season and remain on land during rainy season. They still practice the same fishing and boat building techniques used for generation. Being affectionate to sea, much skilful in swimming and diving, their ways of life and customs are so characteristic that traditional festival will be launched intending to attract international tourists as well as to operate marine eco-tourism around the islands in Myeik(Burma) Archipelago.

Just north of the Surin Islands, an imaginary line divides Thailand waters from Myanmar's Mergui Archipelago. Also known as the Myeik(Burma) Archipelago, this immense area covers approximately 36,000 sp km (14,000 sq miles) and included roughly 800 islands. Diving here is still in its infancy, as the entire region has been off-limits to outsiders since the late 1940s. After several years of negotiation by Phuket dive operators, the archipelago was opened for tourism in 1997, yet much of the area remains unexplored.

Leopard Shark Stegostoma Fasciatum in Mergui ArchipelagoThe islands are similar to their Thai counterparts, with rugged, high-profile limestone and granite topography. One obvious difference, aside from the sheer number of Myanmar(Burma) islands, is their unspoiled terrestrial scenery. Dense brush and rainforest cover most areas above the high-tide line, while vast stretches of mangroves and magnificent white-sand beaches are interspersed with rocky headlands, tidal creeks and a few freshwater rivers. Though several of the larger islands are home to small communities of Moken 'sea gypsies,' the vast majority are uninhabited and largely untouched by humans.

Laguna Beach is the Most Famous Institution Festival of Arts, California

Laguna BeachLaguna Beach is a city located in southern Orange County, California, approximately 24 miles southeast of downtown Santa Ana. The population was 23,727 at the 2000 census. The city's most famous institution is the Festival of Arts, an annual art exhibition in the summer which has given the city a reputation for being "artsy." Apart from bringing together artists and art collectors, the Festival is also famous for the Pageant of the Masters, an annual living statue show where local volunteers reproduce several dozen famous artworks in an evening (with the help of elaborate costumes and makeup). The Pageant is apparently the only show of its type and scale in western North America.

Winter Laguna BeachAnother famous annual event is the Sawdust Art Festival. Its summer art show features local artists exhibiting paintings, sculpture and fine craft in an artist village which is built each year. One interesting yet largely unknown fact regarding Laguna Beach is that it is the world mecca for skimboarding, the sport having been invented by the town's lifeguards over half a century ago. Because of occasional financial problems, the Festival has occasionally considered licensing the Pageant concept to other cities, but each time has ultimately refused. Licensing the Pageant would decrease the uniqueness of Laguna Beach and thus its attractiveness to tourists.

All the Beaches in Ko Lanta are Perfect for Watching the Sunset

Koh Lanta Beach SunsetKo Lanta Yai is located in the Andaman Sea off the west coast of Thailand, between the Phi Phi Islands and the mainland. They are politically part of Krabi Province, most of which is on the mainland. Measuring 30 km long and 6km wide, the island forms part of the Ko Lanta archipelago, which covers an area of 180 km². The area was designated as Park of Thailand in 1990. All the beaches in Ko Lanta are on the west coast - perfect for watching the sunset. Even during the peak season they are never crowded, which can come as a pleasant surprise when arriving from the far busier beaches of Ao Nang, Ko Phi Phi or Phuket.

Ko Lanta - Northern Beaches

Koh Lanta BeachThe northern beaches - Kaw Kwang, Klong Dao, and Phra Ae (Long Beach) - are all long, unblemished stretches of white sand and turquoise water, with the best conditions for swimming. As they are the closest to Saladan, the main entry point to the island, they also have the best (most developed) facilities, with a large choice of shops, dive schools, restaurants, bakeries and bars.

Kaw Kwang and Klong Dao have very gently sloping sand and are thus popular with families - especially those with small children. Most of the resorts on these beaches have swimming pools, which also makes them attractive to the package holiday tourists. As you approach the southern tip of Klong Dao, around Holiday Villa, the beach gets quite rocky.

Ko Lanta - Beaches in the Middle of the Island

The beaches in the middle of Ko Lanta - Klong Kong, the rocky Klong Tob and Klong Nin - are less spectacular, but nonetheless nice places to relax and swim. Klong Kong is probably the best value beach on the island, with a large concentration of cheap bungalows - although for some reason it does not enjoy the same backpacker vibe of Klong Nin further south of Thailand.

Klong Tob is largely undeveloped, as it is mainly shingle with some sand and large rocks near Moonlight Bay Resort. This beach is used as a harbour by local fisherman.

Klong Nin is a long, steeply shelving sandy beach (the sand was pushed even higher by the tsunami) with rocks at either end. The waves can be quite high, which is good for splashing around, but it is not advised to swim far out unless you are a strong swimmer. It has the highest concentration of ‘backpacker’ style bungalows and bars, all accessible on foot along the beach.

Ko Lanta - Southern Beaches

South of Klong Nin beach, the landscape takes on a more rugged character and the stunning Ba-Kantiang Bay, Klong Jak, Ao Nui and Bamboo Bay are highly recommended for those who like their beaches on the wild side.

If you stay on these beaches, it almost feels like a different island. You will be much more more isolated - the package crowds do not tend to venture down here. Unless you are staying in one of the handful of luxury resorts, there will not be much in the way of choice of food and drink, although every bungalow operation will have its own beach bar close by.

Rai Leh Beach is a Small Village Located on the Andaman Coast of Thailand

Rai Leh Beach WestRai Leh Beach, also commonly known as Railay, is a small village located on the Andaman Coast of Thailand, in Krabi Province. Rai Leh is primarily known as a rock climbing hot spot, attracting climbers from all over the world to its superb towering limestone. As Rai Leh is a peninsula surrounded by ocean and mountains, final access can only be by boat. Long-tails depart from Ao Nang (10 minutes, 60 baht/person) and Krabi (30 minutes) on demand, making those towns the gateways to Rai Leh. It's also possible to access Rai Leh via regular ferries that run between Ko Lanta, Ko Phi Phi, and Phuket.

The Krabi, Phuket, Ko Lanta and Ko Phi Phi articles have information on reaching the gateways to Rai Leh from throughout Thailand From Bangkok there are flights to Krabi and Phuket, direct bus services, and trains to Surat Thani with onward connections by bus.

Get around

Rai Leh Beach RockRai Leh is considered to be all of the peninsula, which has three primary landmarks:

Rai Leh West: A fine beach of white sand and shallow water, where most long-tails arrive from Ao Nang.

Rai Leh East: The mangrove side of the peninsula, used by long-tails to/from Krabi.

Phra Nang: Another fine beach of white sand, on the southern tip of the peninsula.

It's a 5-10 minute walk between any of these landmarks. The village itself is a pedestrian's dream, as there are no cars, and the uneven bumpy walkways make even bicycles impractical.

Rai Leh is perhaps the best winter sport rock climbing area in the world, with over a thousand bolted routes up limestone faces with breathtaking views over the ocean. Climbing is graded on the French scale, most is steep and challenging with only limited possibilities for beginners.

Required climbing gear: Rai Leh and around is all sport climbing. Beyond a 60 metre (200 foot) rope, sixteen quickdraws, your harness, shoes and a lot of chalk, you won't need much else. Anything you forget or don't have can be rented at the climbing shops.

Guides: Rai Leh and Tonsai have several guide operators with services ranging from introductory rock climbing courses to rent-a-belay partner.

Waikiki Beach, Hawaii is the Best Known Beaches in the World

Waikiki Beach at NightWaikiki Beach is the shoreline fronting Waikiki and one of the best known beaches in the world. The beach has had its problems because of groynes build-out from the shore. This has led to beach replenishment projects in the past. In the 1920s and 1930s sand was obtained from Manhattan Beach, California, and transported via ship and barges to Waikiki. One disastrous sand replenishment project involved a man-made sand that the gentle surf turned into a concrete like surface.

Waikiki Beach HawaiiWaikiki Beach is a neighborhood of Honolulu, in the City and County of Honolulu, on the south shore of the Island of O ahu, Hawaii. Waikiki Beach extends from the Ala Wai Canal (a channel dug to drain former wetlands) on the west and north, to Diamond Head on the east. The name means spouting water in Hawaiian for springs and streams that fed wetlands that once separated Waikiki from the interior. Waikiki has long been a place of relaxation. In particular, the area was a retreat for Hawaiian royalty in the 1800s. Today it is considered the center of the tourist industry in Hawaiʻi, with an abundance of both high-rise resort hotels.

Samui Island is Characterized by Beaches of Powdery White Sand in Thailand

Sunset Koh Samui Lipa Noi BeachSamui Island is a rare gem, preserving the idyllic simplicity of a tropical hideaway. It is characterized by beaches of powdery white sand, crystal-clear waters. Situated on Sanui's east coast, this is Samui's longest and most beautiful beach, a 6km strip of powder-soft sand fronted by crystal-clear water. It also has the Island 's largest concentration of accommodation, ranging from five-star resort to simple bamboo bungalows.

Hat Chaweng

is the centre for water sport activities like windsurfing and jetskiing in the day, and it has a great social scene at night, when the dance halls pulsate to the latest rhythms.

Hat Maenam, Hat Bophut and Hat Bang Rak

These are all located along the north coast , and ideal places for those who want to get away from it all. Bang Rak is often called ' Big Buddha Beach ' because of the huge Buddha image at the eastern end of the beach that looks particularly impressive at sunset.

Hat Lamai

Also on the east coast, 'just south of Hat Chaweng, Hat Lamai attracts surfers to its play- ful waters, which run a little deeper than at Hat Chaweng. Behind the beach there are several spas, where visitors can treat themselves to an herbal sauna, a relaxing'Thai massage, or even a mud facial.

South and West Coast Beaches

Even more isolated than the north coast beaches, those on the south and west coasts are not linked by the island's ring road, though access is easy enough for anyone curious to take a look. At Laem Set in the south, the sea is too shallow for swimming, but the huge smooth boulders on the beach and coconut palms leaning over at impossible angles give it a special feel. In the island's south- west, Hat Taling Ngam may not be quite as perfect as Hat Chaweng, but has a long strip of sand that is often deserted and makes an ideal spot for a beach ramble. At the northern end of the bay, the luxurious Ban Taling Ngam Resort has several swimming pools and villas set on a hill with great views of the beach.

Getting There

Chaweng View Over the Island s Main BeachKoh Samui (the full name, with ko meaning "island" in Thai) is located some 80 kilometres off the coast of Surat Thani, about 560 kilometres from Bangkok. It can be reached by air from Bangkok, or by ferry boat from Surat Thani town. The major access to the island is still by sea, with a large car ferry running continuously from Don Sak to the west coast and passenger craft running between Surat Thani and Na Thon. Buses carry passengers over the ferry, allowing uninterrupted travel between Samui and Bangkok, or Samui and Hat Yai in Thailand.

By Ferry

Two ferry companies operating from three ferry piers along the Surat Thani coast on the main land and two on Koh Samui, Thailand.

View of Bora Bora Pearl BeachBora Bora island is possibly the single most famous island in all the world. The legends mysteries and romance associated with the words "Bora Bora" bring an almost mystical presence to the island. Bora Bora Beach, with a lagoon resembling an artist's palette of blues and greens, is love at first sight. Perfect white-sand beaches give way to emerald waters where impossibly colored fish animate the coral gardens.

Ko Samet - Paradise Beaches in Thailand

Ao Nuan Beach in Ko SametThe island of Ko Samet in Rayong Province takes about two and a half hours to get to by bus from Bangkok, Thailand followed by a ferry ride that lasts another 30 to 45 minutes. The trip is worth it. The tiny island some four miles off the coast from the village of Ban Phe is relatively untouched by development and is home to some of the most beautiful fine white sand beaches in all of Asia.

Ko Samet - Beaches

Hat Sai Kaew

Hat Sai Kaew or Diamond beach is the longest and one of the most popular beaches on Ko Samet, Thailand. It is located in the North-East and it is about 780 meters long. This is the beach You should choose if you like to have a little people and activities around you, but at the same time live next to a almost paradise-like beach. The sand is almost snow-white and the water is invitingly green-blue.

Ao Vong Duan

Ao Vong Duan is a 500 meter long half moon shaped beach with the most fantastic sunrise on this island. The sand is as inviting as on Hat Sai Kaew and the atmosphere here is really pleasant.

Ao Prao

The only beach on the West coast of Samet is a real beauty and a few elegant hotels are located here. The beach is about 200 me

ters long and very pleasant. The sunset from Ao Prao is on a clear night a memory that will probably last a lifetime.

Other Beaches

Rock on Ao Phai Beach in Ko SametOn the East coast from North to South (apart from the beaches we already mentioned) will find, in order: Ao Phai, Ao Wai, Ao Kui Na Nok and Ao Kui Na Nai. They are all very nice small beaches that all has the white characteristic Samet sand. The further South you go on this island the less tourists you will find in general.
