Speaking Out of World's Best Beaches

Nauset Beach Orleans USABeach vacation is definitely the great idea. Let's hear how others speak about their best beaches around the world. It will help you out to decide where to enjoy your next vacation on the beach!

Beaches in Northeast of America

"I love New England, particularly the beaches of Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. Chatham is my favorite beach town and Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA is one of the nation's best beaches."

"I spend my summers 'on Montauk,' as we lovingly call it. Technically, I guess, it is similar to other New England beaches, particularly Cape Cod/Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard in its 'beach feel,' with the geography being very similar to the others. It is extremely laid-back, though, and it really earns its 'un-Hamptons' moniker."

Beaches in Mid-Atlantic of America

Emerald Bay Catalina Island California USA"My own personal beach is Ocean City, New Jersey, largely for sentimental reasons. My grandparents have a home there less than a block from the beach, so I've gone there every summer since I was born. I love the boardwalk, the nice wide beach at 18th St. (where my grandparents' house is), even the hideous pink house across the street."

"I would have to say that my favorite beach destination would be Assateague Island, Maryland. My family enjoys camping on the beach. It is quiet and peaceful. The wildlife is awesome too. Ocean City (MD) is a stone's throw away. This isactually a restful destination!"

"My favorite beach vacation is the private beach at my in-laws' house on the Magothy River/Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis. It's wonderful to relax on the beach, listen to the boats go past, and be able to walk back into the house whenever I want to."

Beaches in South of America

"I like Myrtle Beach area, especially the Surfside Beach area. They have very clean beaches and they are well kept."

Kaanapali Beach Maui Hawaii USA"We've been to lots of beaches, from SC to AL to all over FL and by far our favorite beach is Cape San Blas, FL. It's a little piece of 'Old Florida' in the Panhandle! It's a 20-mile-long peninsula with the bay on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other and 10 of the 20 miles is all St. Joseph Peninsula State Park! There are no high-rises allowed on Cape San Blas, so the beaches are not crowded and it's white sand as far as you can see."

"I would have to say that Hilton Head Island is one of my favorite beaches. I have been going there for 15 years so I have many wonderful family memories on the beautiful beaches."

Beaches in West Coast of of America

"Emerald Bay, Catalina Island, California. It is on the non-tourist side of the island. Its sand is white, and the water is just like its name: emerald green and very clear. It is beautiful. Not great for long swims it can be a little sharky, blues like it also. Just stay close to the shore. No one has reported a bite that I've heard of. It is worth it. Hard to believe it is California."

Beaches in Hawaii of of America

Gao Beach India"Kaanapali on Maui was magical when we were there. The softest golden sand! It was mandatory that you walk on the beach at sunset, we saw whales passing by, a sailboat against the sun. Wonderful."

"My two-week escape to Hawaii, specifically Waikiki Beach, was pure heaven and remains my top favorite beach vacation. Sure, it's touristy and high-rises now abound, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful! The views of the sea and nearby Diamond Head were just stunning."

Beaches in Caribbean

"Ultimate favorite is the Caribbean, specifically, St. Barthelemy, where there are numerous lovely beaches around the island; shell beach, La Saline, Baie St. Jean ... and all the not-so-common places to find tidal pools that accumulate, typically down a cliff, craggy place which means a challenging approach but awesome payoff!"

"Aruba is my beach paradise. We've been to Jamaica, Bahamas, and several Florida spots, but nothing compared to our Aruba trips."

Beaches in Africa, India and Australia

"Having stayed along the coast line for my whole life, I would have to say that South African beaches are the best and most beautiful! In Durban alone you can go to quiet secluded beaches and then a little less than a few kilometres away you can get more 'party' happening beaches! We have soft white beach sand and you can also swim in the water as it's not so cold."

Bondi Beach Sydney Australia"Torquay in the state of Victoria, Australia, about two hours southwest of Melbourne (via Geelong). Fly into (major) Melbourne airport (Tullamarine) or, within Australia, take the discounter Jetstar into regional Avalon airport (much closer to Geelong and Torquay). Great beaches, it's the site of major surf events, and the beginning of the gorgeous Great Ocean Road that goes west to Warrnambool. Water temps are brisk!"

"Beach in Southern Goa is my favorite beach. I went there last April while traveling around India. It was recently used in the Matt Damon film the Bourne Supremacy. It is crescent shaped with white sand and is absolutely breathtaking. I found that there wasn't a lot to do there though but the beach is well worth a visit if you're in that part of the world."

"Bondi Beach in Australia ... very beautiful and there is so much to do there as well. Cliff walk, surf, sunbathe, hit the cafes along the beachfront ... chill out and realize that something this beautiful really does exist in the world. The extra nice part of Bondi Beach is that it's home to the nicest people in the world (then there's New Zealand -- it's a toss-up; the Kiwis are awesome too!)."

"Favorite beach destination? The Isle of Djerba, off the coast of Tunisia! Fabulous white sands, transparent turquoise warm water -- and so exotic! One evening, we took a sunset camel tour after a great day lazily lounging and snorkeling."

Diving in Crystal Clear Water at Cook Islands

View of Cook Islands
The diving opportunities in the Cooks are diverse with crystal clear waters (seldom less than 100m visibility), and water temperatures between 23 and 30 degrees Centigrade.

All diving is shore based from boats in the 5.6 to 7 metre size range and most dive sites are a mere ten minutes from your departure point. There are canyons, caves and varieties of coral - including plate, shelving, mushrooms and brain, big drop-offs and a multitude of colourful tropical fish.

While there are no guaranteed performers such as the rays of Cayman or the mantas of Yap, anything is possible. The real thrill is not knowing what is around the next corner.

Recreational diving was established commercially in the Cook Islands in 1973 by Greg Wilson of Cook Island Divers and there are now four full time dive operators, three in Rarotonga, the main island and one in Aitutaki.

Cook Island Divers in Rarotonga, and Aitutaki Scuba in Aitutaki both run two separate one tank multilevel dives each day. Cook Island Divers operates a seven day a week operation, and Aitutaki Scuba six days, (no Sunday dives) and the newly established Pacific Divers concentrates mainly on training but also offer whale watching and scenic cruises.

Sunset View at Cook Islands

Dive Rarotonga, based in Rarotonga also offers dives most afternoons, (no morning dives). A limited amount of night diving is available with the two major operators.

All three operators have good rental equipment, so bringing your own gear is not necessary, although masks, fins and snorkels are recommended, as they are rented only for use on the operator's boats.

Scuba training is available on both islands with Aitutaki Scuba and Cook Island Divers offering a choice of CMAS, NAUI or PADI certifications to all levels. Dive Rarotonga has PADI training available.

Classic Northeastern Shore Towns (Part Two)

Continue from the Part 1 of Classic Northeastern Shore Towns

Newport, Rhode Island

Sunset at Newport in Rhode IslandLarger than most harbor towns, Newport is a haven for recreational sailors. For those not arriving by water, a boat tour of the harbor is a great way to get your feet wet.

Tip: Easton's Beach (also called First Beach) is the beginning of the Cliff Walk, a spectacular 3 1/2-mile path, which runs south along Newport's cliffs to Bailey's Beach. The promenade has views of sumptuous mansions on one side and the rocky coastline on the other.

Edgartown, Massachusetts

Sunrise at Edgartown MassachusettsOnce a well-to-do whaling port, Martha's Vineyard's Edgartown has managed to preserve the elegance of that wealthy era. Lining the streets are 18th- and 19th- century sea captains' houses, many painted white with black shutters, set among well-manicured gardens and lawns.

Tip: While Edgartown's South Beach reigns as the town's most popular sandy strip, sunbathers in search of a little peace and quiet should head to Little Beach. From here you can look across and see the lighthouse at Cape Poge, at the northern tip of Chappaquiddick.

Nantucket Town, Massachusetts

Nantucket Town MassachusettsThe center of island activity, just as it has been since the early 1700s, Nantucket Town on the island of Nantucket consists of only a few square blocks of mostly historical buildings, lovingly restored inns, and boutiques and galleries leading up from the pretty harbor and waterfront, where the ferries dock.

Tip: The Steamship Authority runs car-and-passenger ferries to Nantucket year-round. The trip takes just over 2 hours. If you plan to bring a car in the summer or weekends in the fall, you must have a reservation. Book as far ahead as possible.

Provincetown, Massachusetts

Province Town in MassachusettsCape Cod's smallest town, Provincetown is a place of liberating creativity and substantial diversity. In the busy downtown, Portuguese-American fishermen mix with painters, poets, writers, whale-watching families, and gay and lesbian residents and visitors.

Tip: Race Point Beach, one of the Cape Cod National Seashore beaches in Provincetown, has a wide swath of sand stretching far off into the distance around the point and Coast Guard station. Because of its position on a point facing north, the beach gets sun all day long, whereas the east coast beaches get fullest sun early in the day.

Camden, Maine

Camden Harbor MaineMore than any other town along the Penobscot Bay, Camden is the perfect picture-postcard of a Maine coastal village. Exposed as such, the tiny town is uber-popular---don't expect to be savoring that lobster roll down by the harbor solo.

Tip: One of the town's biggest and most colorful annual events, Windjammer Weekend is the single largest gathering of windjammer ships in the world.

Classic Northeastern Shore Towns (Part One)

Cape May New JerseyFor Northeasterners, the lazy days of summer are best spent at "the shore" in one of the many small beach towns along the East Coast. Though the crowds can get thick, the vibe remains friendly and laid-back.Here are a few favorites, starting with the jewel of the Jersey Shore and moving north to Maine's coast.

Cape May, New Jersey

The southernmost point in New Jersey, believed to be the oldest beachfront resort in the country, is a National Historic Landmark.

Montauk New YorkCape May today retains more than 600 Victorian-era houses, built from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. Many have found new life as B and Bs, inns, and restaurants.Tip: The Cape May "diamonds" (pebbles of pure, rounded quartz) that wash up on the shore of Sunset Beach (within walking distance from the Cape May Lighthouse) are yours for the taking.

Southampton, New York

Like much of Long Island's Hamptons, Southampton is a magnet for affluent summer breakers from "the city" (New York, that is). The beaches, like the people that gather on them, are beautiful.

Block Island Long IslandTip: For a fee, you can stretch out on Cooper's Beach, studying the sea in one direction and historic mansions---including Calvin Klein's massive manse---in the other.

Montauk, New York

Twelve long miles of windswept road, aptly named the Napeague Stretch, separate Montauk from the Hamptons.Surrounded by water on three sides, Montauk is known for its distinct natural beauty and rustic, laid-back vibe. Tip: The Montauk Trolley traverses the sights of Montauk---the village, the lighthouse, the harbor, and several parks---on 90 minute tours from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.

Block Island Long IslandSame-day-ticket holders are allowed all-day boarding privileges (15 stops), which makes this a great way to get around.Tours begin at the Chamber of Commerce, Main Street across from the village green.

Block Island, Rhode Island

Well-preserved Block Island, 12 miles off Rhode Island's Coast, boats 17 miles of sandy beaches. The Old Harbor area is the island's only village and visitors will find the majority of the island's inns and hotels here.Tip: The Greenway, a well-maintained trail system, meanders across the island, but some of the best hikes are along the beaches. You can hike around the entire island in about eight hours.Original Info:fodors.com

Experience Top Five Best Beaches in Greece!

Megali Paralia (in Elafonisos Island, Peloponnese)

Beach in Greece Tsilivi BeachWhat a great experience at this beach. Simos beach is right around the corner and just as great of a beach! For such a tiny island, Elafonisos at the Southern end of Peloponnese offers three of the best beaches of Greece (Panagia beach is the third one), and just about the best looking water in the world.

Egremnoi (Lefkada)

One of the best kept secrets of Greece. Beautiful scenery, crystal clear turquoise water, and soft white coarse sand make this beach one of the best to visit.

Beach in Greece View from MyrtosIts out-of-the-way location on the West coast of Lefkada, and the thousand make-shift concrete steps down (and then up), separate the huge crowds from this beach. Excellent by all measures.

Myrtos (Kefalonia)

Myrtos was voted as the best beach of Greece a few years ago, and for good reason.

Fantastic water and bright-white pebbles, nested among steep cliffs on the west coast of Kefalonia.

Erimoupolis (Crete)

Beach in Greece -Navagio BeachAt the very northern tip of Eastern Crete, Erimoupolis will steal your heart during your visit to this part of Greece.

Nested between rugged rocks and an ancient cemetery, Erimoupolis is named after the "abandoned town" of Itanos, the ruins of which you have to pass on your way to the beach.

Although the beach gets too crowded during the weekends, it is a joy to visit during weekdays.

Myrtidiotissa (Corfu)

Beach in Greece -LefkadaThe road to Myrtidiotissa is a real hazard for any car, so travelers have to park high up the hill near the monastery of Myrtidiotissa, and then walk down about a kilometer of dirt road.

The water is crystal-clear, and the strip of soft brown sand is sheltered by tall cliffs on all sides. This small beach tends to feel overcrowded during full season, but a real pleasure early in the summer.

TIME TO SURF - KUTA BEACH BREAK, BALI, INDONESIA

Bali Beach in IndonesiaBali is the "Island of 1000 Temples" and a perfect tropical surf paradise in Indonesia. Bali has given a magical gift to the global surfing community.

That gift is SURF! Like a magnet, Bali's surf has attracted the world's best surfers to ride and discover Indonesia's best-kept secret.

The Kuta region is overwhelmingly Bali´s most touristic resort, or as an Australian Surfer put it: "Bali? That´s a great place near Kuta, and Kuta is a big-Aussie-city!"

In the area around Kuta and Legian Beach there are about 15 great surfable spots (besides Kuta Beach there are Medewi, Turtle Island, Playgrounds, Nusa Dua, Nusa Lembongan, Impossibles and more....)

The Kuta beach breaks can get very good; the best spots are Halfway, Padma and Double Six. The Beaches are wonderful and there are plenty of good and cheap places to stay as well as to eat drink and be entertained.

Wave in Kuta Beach Bali IndonesiaIf you have a taste for a busy beach scene, shopping and nightlife, you will probably have a great time - if you want a quiet, unspoilt, tropical hideaway go somewhere else.

Or, combine both, start with a week in Kuta and then go and explore the other quiter places and islands.

Ensure with safety in Bali beach

The political situation in Indonesia is very unstable and recently 60 people were injured when a bomb went off in Jakarta.

There have also been Anti-American demonstrations in Jakarta in the aftermath of the September 11th events. However, Bali is believed to be safe.

In a October 14th Interview California photographer Dustin Humphries said "Bali is as mellow as ever. Business and fun as usual."

Surfboard in Kuta Beach Bali IndonesiaNevertheless the Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer travel to Indonesia. Bali is also safer than neighbouring G-Land (where Malaria and Sharks could be a hazard).

Don´t leave valuables at the beach or in the car when you are in the water and not in the hotel room either. Use the hotel safe.

You can easily get there to Bali!

Take a flight to Denpasar. Rental cars and motorcyles are very cheap to rent if you don´t want to use public transportation.

(A Suzuki 4WD jeep costs about 10$ per day, if you rent on a weekly basis, this includes full insurance, but sometimes the rental agent tries to sell additional unnecessary insurances and very high prices)

About Waves in Bali beach

Surf in Kuta Beach Bali IndonesiaKuta beachbreak has its moments. Best on a 1m swell and usually mid to high tide but with so many coral reefs around here it is the option only if you are beginning surfing or have no transport or got up late and missed the right tide for the other breaks.

In other words its good but in this paradise for waves its certainly not the best. The water is extremely warm - don´t event think about a wetsuit, but reef booties can make sense in Bali.

Water Temperature in (northern hemisphere) Summer: 24°C
Water Temparature in (northern hemisphere) Winter: 28°C

Pink Sand, White Powder, Exotic Black Sand on Caribbean Beaches

Turquoise Water on the BeachCaribbean Beaches are world re-known for their Pink sand, White powder, Exotic Black sand, and warm, Turquoise Waters.

Most Beach Lovers desire nothing more than to spend lazy days at their Favorite Beach Hangout.

Stick around and also find a great Caribbean beach resort.

Caribbean White Sand Beaches

Caribbean White Sand BeachWhere does white coral sand originate?

Believe it or not, from a colorful green fish! The Parrot fish use their beaks to scrape off coral rock.

The fish digest algae and expel the algae as fine white sand. One fish can produce tons of soft white sand each year.

Caribbean Pink Sand Beaches

Caribbean Pink Sand BeachPink Sand is the result of the colorful red shells of tiny sea creatures called "foraminifera". These tiny creatures live beneath rocks and inside caves. Their red shells are broken up by the surf into fine, soft pink colored sand.

Caribbean Black Sand Beaches

Formed when hot lava flows into the Caribbean Sea, and breaks into black sand pieces which eventually flows back to the shore.

Caribbean Black Sand BeachThe texture of black sand is course, unlike white sand or pink sand beaches.

Volcanic black sand beaches of the Caribbean's volcanic islands include: Saint Lucia, Grenada, Dominica, Nevis, Saint Kitts and Montserrat.

Surfers Paradise Beach - Heaven in Gold Coast Australia

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast AustraliaSurfers Paradise is the most frequented of the Gold Coast suburbs and symbolises what most people would associate with the region.

Magnificent high rise apartment towers, outdoor dining, the beach and fun.

A concentration of high rise towers dominate the skyline making the other Gold Coast towns look well and truly under developed.

This is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia and it is not surprising that one of, if not the World's tallest residential towers, Q1 was compleated in 2005 at 'Surfers'.

It stands 80 stories high offering views to as far as Brisbane.

Surf Culture

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast Australia - BeachSurfers Paradise is adjacent to the more restrained Broadbeach, being connected by the miles of golden beach which gives the area its name.

References to surf culture are everywhere from the tall surfboard sculptures at the entrance of the Cavill Mall precinct to the street furniture and outdoor seating. Don't be surprised to see surfers, with their boards in arm, walking to and from the beach.

Although the surfing here has a good reputation, dangerous currents and rip tides can get unsuspecting bathers into serious trouble so always swim between the flags on patrolled sections of the beach.

Cavill Mall

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast Australia NIght ViewAt the heart of Surfers Paradise is the bustling, always busy Cavill Mall.

This is a pedestrianised precinct running between The Esplanade, on the breachfront, and The Gold Coast Highway.

Cavill Mall is lined by fast food outlets, outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants and is the location for buskers and street entertainers, amusement arcades, Ripleys Believe It Or Not, the Hard Rock Cafe and shopping malls.

International Cuisine

There is always somewhere closeby to eat in Surfers Paradise. There are street side eateries, cafes, fast food restaurants as well as theme restaurants such as The Hard Rock Cafe.

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast Australia - SunbatheTo cater for the varying tastes and demand from international visitors, there is a wide choice of cuisine on offer, including Australian, Chinese, French, Greek, Italian, Indian, Thai and Japanese.

Amusements

Surfers Paradise is known for offering a wide variety of entertainment. Street entertainers mingle with the crowds, you will find attractions such as wax works, multi media walk through experiences, amusement arcades, bowling, mini golf, parasailing, amphibious aquabus tours and even firearm shooting galleries.

Further afield is The Gold Coast Hinterland, several theme parks and more golf courses than anywhere else in Australia.

Bungy Jumping

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast Australia - WaveFor the adventurous there is a selection of extreme rides just opposite The Crown Towers on the corner of Palm Avenue and Gold Coast Highway. This includes a bungy jump, a large rotating arm with capsules at either end and the sling shot.

The Sling Shot propels its passengers upwards to a height of 80 metres (so you get a good view of the Crown Towers!) and pulls several 'G's'. It is an amazing experience.

Chevron Renaissance

The Chevron Renaissance typifies the optimism in Surfers Paradise and The Gold Coast in general.

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast Australia - LittleBurleighThe development comprises a shopping, boutique and dining precinct complete with palm tree-lined boulevards and elegant water features beneath three (each being about 40 stories high) elegant residential and holiday apartment towers (not currently all complete).

The architecture, inspired by Italian/European style, is opulent and ornate. The development is similar in concept to The Phoenician Resort in Broadbeach although on a larger scale.

Surfers Paradise Accommodation

Surfers Paradise has a good selection of accommodation providing literally thousands of rooms for visitors. Accommodation includes The Crown Towers which is always popular and the elegant Chevron Renaissance offers five star luxuriously appointed accommodation.
